About the Dobra
The dobra has been the currency of this small Gulf of Guinea island nation since independence from Portugal in 1975. In 2018 the central bank redenominated the currency, dropping three zeros to replace the old dobra (STD) with a new dobra (STN) at a rate of 1,000 old to 1 new, and pegged it to the euro (as São Tomé receives significant support from Portugal) at a fixed rate of roughly 24.5 new dobra per euro.
